Van der Meyde: Everton 'the right club' for Man Utd reject Depay

It looks like Everton have joined the race for Manchester United reject Memphis Depay.

And a former player has backed the move, saying that it’d be the right idea.

“Everton would be the right club for Memphis Depay,” Andy Van der Meyde told Voetbal International, “Coach Koeman would give him the confidence he needs”.

The former Toffee, who only played 20 Premier League games in four years at Goodison Park, seems to echo the general vibe, Depay being linked to a number of departures away from Manchester.

Van der Meyde, who also played two seasons at Inter Milan, is hardly known as being a model footballer, his time on Merseyside being characterized by a series of… extra-curricular activities.

Still respected for his insightful comments, the former Ajax man could be onto something: the Dutch midfielder is no longer in Jose Mourinho’s plans, and could leave, despite the Red Devils blocking any idea of a move away from Old Trafford.
