In attesa di vendere Defoe e Modric, il Tottenham acquista il centrocampista islandese Gylfi Sigurdsson, proveniente dall'Hoffenheim e che nell'ultima stagione aveva militato in prestito allo Swansea City, con un bottino di 7 gol in 17 partite.
