The beginning of each football season is always surrounded by many questions and curiosities. Fans are looking forward to see their idols back on the pitch as well as enjoying new summer signings wearing the shirts of their favourite teams.

There are five youngsters who claimed the spotlight in the opening game of 2016-17 Serie A.

The first one is Cristiano Lombardi. The 21-year-old Lazio winger netted in the biancocelesti’s 4-3 win over Atalanta in his debut Serie A game. The Italian promise played in place of Keita Balde and Simone Inzaghi praised the product of Lazio academy after the game.

“I know him since when he was playing for the Allievi team. I made no gifts, he deserves to be part of the senior team.”

Enrico Chiesa’s son Federico started in Juventus-Fiorentina on Saturday, but his game only lasted 45 minutes. “Federico will become a club’s legend”, Paulo Sousa claimed at the end of the game.

Federico Chiesa made his first appearance with a professional team last Saturday, whilst Lombardi had already played on loan at Trapani and Ancona, though he failed to live up to promises in Serie B.

Pescara’s Valerio Verre and Sassuolo’s Luca Mazzitelli and Stefano Sensi, on the other hand, impressed in Italy’s second division last term and they also blazed a trail in their Serie A debut on Sunday night.

Verre registered an assist against Napoli, Sensi is controlled by Juventus, Mazzitelli is on AC Milan’s sights after netting five goals in Serie B last term.

These five young stars are those who impressed the most in Serie A matchday one.
