Spalletti lashes out: 'What if I quit if Francesco Totti retires?'

Talk about an explosive press conference!
Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti hit out at the media, and what he judges to be a persistent malaise with the club's operations, as well as his relationship with club legend Francesco Totti, with whom he fell out last season.

“Francesco is used in the wrong way and even he notices that”, Spalletti told a packed media centre.

“You [the media] are looking for excuses to divide Roma. The Coach isn't good enough, the CEO isn't good enough, the club's employees aren't good enough. Nothing is. Is there something that you do like?

“Francesco is a genius who needs to be handled, as he has to help he develop other players”.
Last year he was fundamental to attain victory with the rest of the squad. He's extraordinary, but if we can't survive without him then we won't ever win anything.

“We even spoke about it this morning, when he trained before the rest of the squad so he could go to his aunt's funeral. I have nothing against him, on the contrary! I have begun praising him this year. You all insist that he's playing his last season, but I don't agree, what if I told you that I'll quit if Francesco retires?”
