Should Fiorentina regret letting Mario Gomez leave the Franchi?

Do you remember the old Mario Gomez? The Mario Gomez who could only play a handful of games during his two-year spell in Florence? Well, forget about that Mario Gomez, because a new striker is back since the German hit-man joined Super Lig giants Besiktas.

Scorer of 18 goals in 23 games this term, Gomez is the Turkish’s league leading scorer and definitely one of the best players of the league, at least according to OPTA which have added the former Bayern Munich front-man into the Super Lig’s dream team of the season.

The Turkish side sit second in the league, two points behind defending champions Fenerbache. As we previously reported, Besiktas can make Gomez’s move permanent for a fee of…€ 1K next season after paying € 3.5 million for the player’s seasonal loan.Fiorentina, however, have the right to get part of the incomes coming from the player’s future sales.

Gomez, 30, left no mark at the Franchi during his two-year spell in Tuscany. He played just 47 games during that time scoring 14 goals, but it is fair to add that his experience in Serie A was highly conditioned by a couple of knee injuries which sidelined him for several months.
