Serie A Matchday 8: Top 5 performers of the weekend

Week 8 of the Serie A championship once again threw up its fair share of action and controversy. Roma’s 3-1 win at the San Paolo against Napoli on Saturday set the tone and Cagliari’s 2-1 win at the San Siro against Inter, heaped more pressure on under-fire boss Frank de Boer.

Here’s our list of the top five individual performers of the weekend:

    5. Edin Dzeko (vs Napoli): Whoscored rating 8.5
Another brace from the big Bosnian international sees him top the goalscoring charts in Serie A. This was billed as the season that Dzeko would finally silence his critics; eight weeks in and he’s beginning to live up to the hype.

    4. Paulo Dybala (vs Udinese): Whoscored rating 8.6
A delightful free-kick drew his side level in Turin on Saturday before he calmly sealed things from the penalty spot to ensure Juventus remain five points clear at the summit of Serie A.

    3. Mohamed Salah (vs Napoli): Whoscored rating 8.6
When he’s hot, he’s really hot and Mo Salah’s contribution to Roma’s surprise 3-1 win at Napoli was vital. Deployed behind striker Edin Dzeko, his persistence set up the Bosnian strikers opening goal before he put the game beyond any doubt by grabbing his side’s crucial third goal.

    2. Emiliano Viviano (vs Pescara): Whoscored rating 8.8
The Sampdoria custodian had a wonderful match against the newly promoted side and his penalty save from Caprari ensured that his team got a share of the spoils on Saturday night.

    1. Lorenzo Pellegrini (vs Crotone): Whoscored rating 9.0
The 20-year-old’s wonderful midfield display dragged his team back from the brink against Crotone on Sunday. The on-loan Roma youngster grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and provided the assist for Pietro Iemello’s late winner.
