Sarri: ‘Higuain has not even said goodbye’

Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has released an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport talking about the partenopei’s objective for the next campaign and, of course, Higuain’s arrival at Juventus.

“I am going to talk about him, but not gladly. That was his choice, because we had made an offer in line with Juventus. We lose a determining player, the best striker in the world. Personally, I am embittered. I expected to receive a phone call at least, maybe five minutes before his medical.”

“He has not even said goodbye to his old teammates. I am old enough not to be left astounded. I told the lads not to be sad, we have no alibis. We are strong and we racked up six points in three games played without him last season. Not too bad I guess.”

“I am the coach of Napoli and I have to work with my players. Gabbiadini has great potential. Most of fans have already overcome the farewell of Higuain. People trust us, believe in us. We’ve made the impossible to keep them close to us. We’ve never taken one single training session behind closed doors this summer and we have not moved abroad. I hope fans will appreciate that.”

“Theoretically, the Serie A is already decided, but one has to play games, there are 38 matches and everything can happen. I can promise they will have a very hard, almost impossible game against us at the San Paolo on the 2nd of April. Everyone starts from the beginning and I am not going to sign for the second spot."

"They seem unbeatable now, but everything can happen. I don’t envy Allegri. I am doing the job I love for the team I’ve always supported. I am the one who should be envied.”
