With Vincenzo Montella’s imminent departure for Milan, two names are now tipped to be the frontrunners to succeed him at Sampdoria. Former Empoli coach and a man who was himself strongly fancied to take up the reins at Milanello, Marco Giampaolo, remains in pole-position. 
 

According to Secolo XIX, he is the number one choice of Sporting Director Osti and he would also make financial sense to the port club, who would be able to pay him less than the €1.5 million plus bonus per season that they awarded to Montella. There is a challenger however, in the shape of former Lazio boss Stefano Pioli, who has also been linked with a number of managerial vacancies in Serie A this summer.
