Rumours: Sarri and Higuain to leave if Napoli finish third?
Maurizio Sarri has been the architect of the azzurri awkward season, Gonzalo Higuain his most reliable carpenter.
Despite Napoli’s positive results, Aurelio De Laurentiis is still not totally convinced about Sarri’s work. Choices made in the second part of the season have left Napoli owner perplex and the concrete possibility of missing out on the second spot is definitely not boosting his relationship with the Italian tactician.
De Laurentiis has an option to automatically renew Sarri’s contract at the end of each season until 2020. As the Gazzetta dello Sport points out, Sarri accepted the owner’s conditions last summer, but now he feels he has proved enough to deserve a longer contract and more trust.
The best European sides will knock Napoli’s door to sign their leading scorer Gonzalo Higuain in the summer. The Argentinean striker has yet to extend his contract, but his € 94 million release clause makes the former Real Madrid ace a target for just a handful of wealthy clubs.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport claims Napoli will are willing to extend the player’s stay with a pay rise, but these are not the only things Higuain is looking for. The 28-year-old hit-man wants to win and will only extend his stay at the San Paolo if Napoli will prove to have started a successful and winning project.
The first step would be finishing the current Serie A campaign behind Juventus in second place.
