Ronaldo: 'Calciopoli gave me great satisfaction'

Ronaldo's return to Italy hasn't been a complete picnic, if his latest statements on his time at Inter are anything to go by. Interviewed exclusively by CM.com two days ago, Ronaldo still shows that he's carrying a flame for his old club, and former owner Massimo Moratti.

But not every Inter-related memory is necessarily a good one: beyond his two horrific injuries, the Brazilian legend seems embittered by what he thinks is Juventus' control over Italian football. Inter notoriously lost a close two-horse race with the Bianconeri in 1997-1998, with Ronaldo being denied a blatant penalty at the Delle Alpi after being floored by Antonio Juliano.

Juventus were later found guilty of matchfixing in 2006, and were stripped of the two Scudetti they had won in 2005 and 2006. It has to be pointed out that whilst what Ronaldo says is understandable, the only evidence the trial was based on covered the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons.

"I couldn't have imagined back then that both games and results were being fixed," Ronaldo told Rai "but one could have guessed that someone was controlling Italian football"

"When it [Calciopoli] emerged it gave me great satisfaction, it felt like I had won those Scudetti"

Juventus would win three Serie A titles during Ronaldo's stay in Milan, in 1997, 1998 and 2002, when Inter were pipped by the Bianconeri on the final day... though it was all of their own doing that time.
