Romagnoli: 'If I was still at Roma, I'd be on the bench'
Talking to Milan Channel, the 20-year-old defender made no secret that sometimes his price-tag has put pressure on him.
“When you join a club like Milan in exchange of that amount of money, of course you feel a bit of pressure, but I feel good here, and I try to always give my best”.
“At the beginning it was hard, because there were lot of new players at the club, so we had to get to know each other and familiarize ourselves with the club’s surroundings. We are reaping the rewards of our hard work right now.”
“I get along with all my teammates, especially with Andrea Bertolacci and Alessio Cerci (two former Roma players), I felt part of the group straight away.”
The former Sampdoria star is wearing the number 13 jersey, which could be another reason for feeling under pressure, as legendary defender Alessandro Nesta had the same number on his back during his 10-year spell with the Rossoneri.
“It is a great honor for me to wear the same number of such a great defender as Nesta, but it will be tough to do as well as he did. He's been my idol since I joined Roma, before I went crazy for Zidane.”
Talking about Rome, Romagnoli revealed that he wasn't as happy in Rome as he is with the Rossoneri, as he didn't feel as involved in the Capitolines’ project.
“They had already decided that I would start from the bench, and when Milan called me, I just couldn’t say no.”
With EURO 2016 round the corner, the product of the Giallorossi Academy also hopes to snatch a last-minute place on the Azzurri's plane.
“I think I still have a small chance, but I guess it will be difficult to take part in the tournament, as I am yet to make my international debut with the senior team.
"I am very happy to play for the U-21 squad right now, and I hope that one day I’ll make my senior Italy debut.
"Wearing his country's shirt is a dream for every football player.”
