Roma - Will history repeat itself after Champions League humiliation?
The Capitolines have already conceded 16 goals in 5 Champions’ League games, adding 15 more in their domestic league.
The difference between the two sides have been massive tonight. Roma’s approach to the game was totally wrong as well as Rudi Garcia’s tactical plan to beat the UEFA Champions’ League holders.
Roma’s defensive line was excessively high, while their midfield pressing was way too poor to deal with the Blaugrana’s technique in the middle of the pitch. The game seemed nothing more than a mere mid-week training session for Luis Enrique’s men, while Rudi Garcia was unable to find the right answer to his tactical needs.
Tonight’s shameful defeat has to be added to another couple of horrific Champions League games that left the mark on the club’s history, such as the 1-7 defeat suffered at the Old Trafford against Manchester United in 2008, or last year’s 7-1 schooling at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Although Roma can still qualify to the knock-out stage winning their next home game against BATE Borisov, tonight’s Nou Camp blow could influence the Giallorossi Serie A campaign, just like it happened one year ago.
Roma snatched six victories in seven Serie A games before last year’s setback against Bayern Munich, while they could only win six matches out of fourteen after the humiliating 1-7 defeat.
