Roma v Milan – Team Coparison OPTA Stats & Facts

Strugglers Roma and Milan will meet on Saturday evening in a fixture that could be decisive for both head coaches as Rudi Garcia and Sinisa Mihajlovic have failed to snatch the positive results that their clubs and fans expected at the beginning of the season.

The number one reason for both team struggles is probably their poor defense. If it’s true that is the less beaten defense that win leagues, than Milan and Roma have a lot to be worried about.

Roma have conceded 21 goals so far, while Milan have only one more (22), though the Rossoneri have faced eight shots on target less than the Giallorossi (63 vs 75).

Just to understand the difference that a world class goalkeeper can make, think that table leaders Inter have faced 76 shots so far, but despite this they have the less beaten defense in Serie A anyway with Samir Handanovic who has kept 11 clean sheets so far, while Roma and Milan combined together have only 7.

As far as the midfield is concerned, everyone knows that Milan are in desperate need of a player capable of bossing the midfield, that’s why they’ve been linked with so many central midfielder in January window. Captain Riccardo Montolivo & co. have only completed 5.995 passes, more than 1.000 less than their opponents who have racked up 7.138.

Accuracy, by the way, is something that both sides are lacking of as they got more than 1.600 passes wrong each.

No doubt that Rudi Garcia can rely on one of the best attacking force of the whole league, despite Edin Dzeko’s wastefulness in front of goal. Roma have the most prolific attack in Serie A after Fiorentina who have scored only one goal more than the Stadio Olimpico side.

The Giallorossi produced 98 shots on target and 104 off it in 18 games. Milan have scored 24 goals so far, with 77 shots on target and 122 outside their opponents’ goal.

Carlos Bacca has boosted the team’s attack with eight goals in the league, while Roma’s leading scorer is Gervinho who has plundered 6.
