Roma in ritiro, Coach Garcia on brink, Lippi slated to replace him
Roma are officially in ritiro. Their punishment boot camp will begin tonight after a chairty dinner, the team to stay on lockdown until Sunday's game against Genoa.
The Giallorossi lost on penalties to Carpi last night in the Coppa Italia, rubbing salt in a pretty big gaping wound: having not won since winning the Derby against Lazio, Roma's unconvincing performances since haven't cheered anyone up, despite qualification to the Champions League Round of 16.
Now, Coach Rudi Garcia's fate hangs in the balance: for the first time, a summit of the club's leadership (held last night) considered the possibility of sacking the former Lille coach. Walter Mazzarri and Marcello Lippi's names are at the top of the list.
Recently interviewed by vocegiallorossa.it, Mazzarri's agent Andrea D'Amico had this to say:
"There have been no contacts with anyone, I've not even spoken with Sabatini. How can I say if Mazzarri is or isn't willing to accept the Roma job if I haven't heard from Sabatini? If I do speak to him, we'll see".
As we all wait for an official announcement from chairman James Pallotta: Rudi Garcia spoke his team for about an hour today, so that they could all analyze the reasons behind the current crisis.
