REVEALED Milan want PSG's Stambouli and Real's Kovacic, but it doesn't depend on them
Milan’s efforts seem to be focussing on two players: Benjamin Stambouli of PSG and former Inter man Mateo Kovacic.
Although promising, Stambouli finds himself behind the likes of Blaise Matuidi, Angel Di Maria, Thiago Motta, Adrien Rabiot and Gregorz Krychowiak in the fight for a midfield place.
The former Montpellier man can perform well in either a two or a three-man midfield. Thing is, his move would depend on Juventus, whose courtship of Blaise Matuidi, if successful, may convince the Parisians to keep Stambouli, who looked good in his team’s recent 4-0 humiliation of Lyon in the French Super Cup. The other option is Mateo Kovacic, who has previously expressed both his wish to play for Milan or Juve, and who recently let Real Madrid know that he wants to leave. Problem is, Coach Zinedine Zidane doesn’t, having lined him up in friendly action lately.
What could push him away is competition: James Rodriguez can’t leave, since he is too expensive (Real paid €75 million for him) and his salary demands excessive, whilst Isco, despite interest, has said he wants to stay.
Thing is, Real are being threatened with a two-year transfer ban, so would they really want to part with Kovacic?
One solution has been suggested by Adriano Galliani: a one-year loan, with no buyback option, allowing Milan to reinforce until their new owners can invest.
