REPORT Chelsea, Napoli target Maksimovic deserts Torino training
Not everything went to plan in Torino in yesterday’s 4-1 humbling of Pro Vercelli in the Coppa Italia.
Despite Adem Ljajic playing very well - how long has it been since the Granata last had such a good free kick taker? - another Serbian caused a bit of a headache.
Nikola Maksimovic has put the club in a difficult situation, having refused to show up to training on a number of occasions, without providing any explanation. Long courted by Napoli and Chelsea, the Serbian’s petulance has gotten him into trouble with Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who is determined not only to discipline him with extra training, but also to sell him shortly. The club, on the other hand, wants to keep an important economic asset.
Napoli’s interest in the Serbian star has been known for at least a year, though negotiations have never succeeded because president Urbano Cairo never wanted to accept less than €25 million for his talented defender.
