Ranocchia: 'A team like Inter should be in the Champions League'

It's been a rough year for Andrea Ranocchia, who has gone from being Inter's captain last summer to being benched behind even Gary Medel and eventually shipped out on loan to Sampdoria.

Now back at Inter, he's still reportedly on the chopping block. Despite receiving a loan offer from Sassuolo, Inter steadfastly refused, only wanting to sell their former captain, or at least force a compulsory buyout on an eventual loan.

To rub salt in the wound, Ranocchia was welcomed by boos at the club's shirt presentation last week, but has since made some encouraging statements: “I'm happy to be here after my experience in Genoa. I had more playing time, but I'm back and I feel ready to wear these colours again”.

Ranocchia, 27, then spoke of the club's ambitions: “I think a team like Inter should return to the Champions League, it's our objective”.
