Papu Gomez reveals why his moves to Inter and Atletico Madrid collapsed

Atalanta ace Papu Gomez was close to joining Inter when Stramaccioni was in charge of the nerazzurri side in May 2013.

“Everything was done. I had agreed terms with the club and just needed to sign the contract. Inter, however, lost their last match of the season for 5-2 against Udinese at home. Stramaccioni was sacked and replaced by Mazzarri a few days later. I’d have struggled to adapt to his 3-5-2 and the deal collapsed,” El Papu has told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Simeone had also called me at Atletico Madrid, Catania wanted € 9 million and they signed Villa instead.”

“Montella also wanted me at Fiorentina, but, yet again, nothing to do either.”

“If Palletta stayed at Atalanta, we could have signed Palacio last summer. They are on very good terms and Paletta was close to convincing him last season.”
