OPINION: There is no pride in defeat, Milan have a provincial mentality

We've had a night to think over what happened yesterday, with Juventus hammering another nail in Milan's residual chances of making the Champions League, or at least of earning automatic Europa League qualification.

And enough with this pride nonsense, too: where was it against Chievo, or Atalanta? Holding for an hour against Juventus is a meagre consolation indeed.

This isn't the Milan I know. Why are we priding ourselves of having given Juventus a run for their money, and lamenting Buffon's fabulous goalkeeping?

Let's be honest: who genuinely believed that we stood a chance in the first place? This Juventus side is just better on every level, especially when it comes to talent.

Max Allegri's side treated us just like any other Serie A side, ramping up or slowing down the tempo according to their convenience. Until Milan had the strength to attack and to go for it, they were able to create problems, but over the long run the Old Lady's superior talent shone through.

Though he's far from blameless in all of this, Coach Mihajlovic made a good point in his pre-match press conference, emphasizing once again that Milan should draw inspiration from Juventus. Those who were listening would have understood that he was having a dig at the club's constant chopping and changing, and advocating a more long-term appraoch.

Before Juventus got Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal, you have to remember that the side that had come 7th two seasons in a row had built a core group of players, including the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Barzagli.

The attack the Bianconeri had back then (Vucinic, Matri, Quagliarella, Giovinco and Del Piero) wasn't much to write home about, yet Juventus still managed to win the Scudetto.
