OPINION: Serie A should learn from La Liga’s remarkable triumph

After Sevilla’s third successive Europa League triumph, we are staring at another Spanish dominion. La Liga clubs have been winning the two main European trophies for the last three successive seasons, given that one between Atletico and Real will lift the Champions League.

The Iberian supremacy is not only limited to the final stages of tournaments. Real, Atletico and Barcelona have all reached the Champions League quarter finals this season with Diego Simeone’s side that eliminated defending champions Barça.

All teams playing in Europa League have reached the last 16 stage at least and Spanish clubs have eliminated each-other through the competition, except from Villareal that face tournament’s exit at hands of finalists Liverpool.

OPINION: Serie A should learn from La Liga’s remarkable triumph

La Liga is probably not the most thrilling league in Europe (except from the last few seasons when Atletico have been joining Real Madrid and Barcelona on top of the table), but Spanish club know exactly what to do when it comes to planning and organizing the future. Marcelino gave Villareal their own identity. He bought Bakambu for only € 7 million last summer. The former Bursaspor hit-man scored nine goals for the Yellow Submarines in Europa League games this season.

Sevilla won their third successive Europa League despite losing Carlos Bacca, Aleix Vidal and Mbia, tipping on Gameiro, Mariano, Coke and Vitolo to become the next star at Sanchez Pizjuan. The day after Sevilla’s triumph we have learned that also Serie A clubs should follow the path taken by Spanish sides.
