OPINION: De Sciglio has to play his cards right to get Italy call-up

Mattia De Sceglio will have another chance to shine tomorrow as Sinisa Mihajlovic is expected to play him from the first minute against Sassuolo in Serie A.

That will be De Sciglio’s 100 appearance with the Rossoneri shirt, quite an important goal for such a young player, but still not enough, given his talent.

The Italian defender has been struggling with injuries, though he seemed to be a predestined when he made his senior debut with AC Milan back in 2012.

Now he needs to play his cards right first of all to play on a regular basis under Sinisa Mihajlovic and then to get Italy call-up for EURO 2016.

De Sciglio, 23, will replace suspended Abate down AC Milan’s right flank tomorrow, while, on the left one, his teammate Antonelli is more likely to travel to France then him next summer.

Under contract with Milan until 2018, Juventus wanted to welcome his services last January. Massimiliano Allegri coached him at Milan and he’s well aware of De Sciglio’s quality. The Old Lady’s tactician knows he can do more, but now it is De Sciglio himself who has to prove it, both for Milan and Italian football.
