Germany, official: Klose retires and joins the staff of Low
The German football federation has announced that Miroslav Klose has joined the coaching staff of national team boss Joachim Loew. The 38-year-old striker, who has had a glittering career at both club and international level, has finally called time as a player, finishing with 273 goals in 701 appearances.
He started out as a professional in 1998 with FC 08 Homburg, moved on to Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Lazio. His international career saw him net 71 times in 137 matches to make him the all-time record goalscorer of the German national team. As well as winning the 2014 World Cup, Klose also boasts the record number of goals at a finals tournament.
In recent weeks, it seemed as though he could make a dramatic return to Serie A as Napoli approached him to replace the unfortunate Arek Milik. This was not to be however and the legendary German now begins life on the other side of the game.
