The Lugaresi family is still going strong, 35 years after magnate Edmeo Lugaresi bought Cesena in 1980.

As communicated today by Cesena, Edmeo's son Giorgio has been confirmed as president, having previously taken over the club in 2002 when his father Edmeo stepped down. He will be in charge till June 2018, accompanied by VPs Graziano Pransani and Mauro Urbini.

Giorgio Lugaresi is known for leading the club back to Serie A in 2013-2014, after the team had found itself €35 million in debt in late 2012, with former president Igor Campedelli even suspected of fraud by the Italian authorities.

Though the Romagnoli would return straight back down to Serie B the following season, Lugaresi (who has also been made aware of an inquiry in the club's accounts this summer, which he blamed on Campedelli) was positive on Facebook, telling fans that "the sun will rise once more".

With the Cavalluccio starting the season strongly before falling to 7th place (11 points short of the top), Lugaresi is under pressure to qualify the team to the playoffs, which gave the club its ticket back to Serie A two years ago, after they beat Latina in the final. He has the merit, along with the club's scouting, of unearthing talent Stefano Sensi, who is wanted by a number of elite Serie A clubs.

Giorgio Lugaresi is different from his father in a few respects, namely that he can actually speak Italian.

Edmeo was cut from a more old-school cloth. Born in 1928, he made his fortune in fruit exportation (much like Serafino Ferruzzi, another romagnolo), but spoke dialect as much as he could, leading legendary tv show Mai Dire Gol to often mock his baffled, convoluted statements, a treatment usually reserved to Giovanni Trapattoni.

Here they actually transcribe his garbled ramblings (you don't need to understand Italian to appreciate it).
Here is another video, in which Lugaresi forgets the word "lift", leading to almost a minute of sheer hilarity.

Let's hope "young" Giorgio is better at running this team than his father is at mastering the language of Dante!.
