News Britannia: Southampton set to swoop for £12.8m Bayern midfielder

Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to join Southampton in the next few days, according to reports.

Sadio Mane, Victor Wanyama and Juanmi have left St Mary’s this summer, with striker Graziano Pelle expected to soon complete a £13million move to China.

Nathan Redmond has arrived from Norwich and it is understood Hojbjerg is set to become the first signing under recently-appointed manager Claude Puel.

The 20-year-old Denmark international has been at Bayern Munich since 2012, spending time on loan at Augsburg and most recently Schalke.

Hojbjerg is now set to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League, with Southampton reportedly paying 15 million euros (£12.8million) for the midfielder.

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has reportedly agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace – despite the two clubs yet to agree on a fee.

According to the Daily Mirror, Benteke is desperate to leave Liverpool and has therefore agreed a salary and contract length with Palace.

The hope is that a move could be completed this week, although the two clubs are yet to agree on a transfer fee.

Liverpool understandably would like to recoup much of the £32.5m fee they paid for Benteke last summer, and while Palace’s opening bid of £25million was rejected, they are thought to be mulling over a second offer as the Reds wait to see if anyone ups that approach.

With Andros Townsend, Bakary Sako, Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha, Benteke would be confident of the type of service from wide areas on which he thrives.

Benteke’s time at Liverpool has been disappointing, with Brendan Rodgers insisting that the striker could fit into his style, before largely disproving that claim.

Sam Allardyce will reportedly be interviewed over the vacant England manager’s job this week according to various reports.

The Sunderland boss is currently in Austria on a pre-season tour with the Black Cats, and has been identified by the FA as the first choice of all available English candidates.

Allardyce applied unsuccessfully for the role in 2006 when he was Bolton manager, losing out to Steve McClaren, something which still haunts the 61-year-old.

“I wanted to do a real knock-your-socks-off interview for the FA, so I put together a PowerPoint which looked at every single detail,” ‘Big Sam’ wrote in his autobiography.

“There was nothing missing. Nobody but nobody was going to beat it. But then Brian Barwick, the chief executive, told me there were no PowerPoint facilities at the interview venue, so I had to print off hard copies for the panel. So much for the progressive FA.”

The FA are also interested in talking to USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann, and they have been made aware that he would be tempted by the job according to the Guardian.

Arsenal want to bring Arda Turan to the Emirates Stadium for next season, and Barcelona are reportedly willing to let the midfielder go.

According to reports in The Sun, an offer of £23million may be enough to force the Catalans to sell, as the Turkish captain has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Having joined from Atletico Madrid last summer, Barcelona’s transfer embargo meant he was not able to play until January.

He failed to break into the side regularly, starting just 13 games in all competitions and not playing in crucial Premier League and Champions League clashes.

The Sun state that Turan is desperate to stay at the Nou Camp, but Denis Suarez could further diminish his opportunities of playing time.
