Totti is like Chinaglia! No, we haven’t lost our sense of reason, but there is one thing that links the two men; the New York Cosmos. 

In 1976, the player nicknamed “Long John” moved stateside to join the original MLS revolution, joining the Cosmos where he scored an incredible 231 goals in 234 matches. Now the same club is trying to tempt another symbol of Rome, Francesco Totti, to follow in Chinaglia’s footsteps.
 

What was once maybe a pipe-dream could now become a reality after coach Gio Savarese told tribalfootball.com that; “Any team would want a player like Totti, he’s at the same level as Raul and Maldini, other players who have been the symbol of their clubs.” When asked if there had been any contact with the 39-year-old he replied: “There has certainly been contact, we’ve had a chat but I cannot say anymore at this time as he is still under contract to Roma. But I repeat, there has been contact with him and age would not be a problem; you look at the quality not the identity card”.
