Napoli, the renewals of Higuain and Sarri: the latest
When asked about his imminent renewal with the club, Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri declared; “I’ve agreed with the President that there is no need to hurry. Its better we focus on the rest of the season first”.
SARRI
The Napoli boss has admitted that he did meet with club President De Laurentiis in Rome but both were of the equal opinion that it was better to wait. Napoli wants to confirm Sarri but Sarri wants to confirm Napoli. The answer will almost certainly be yes but there will have to be a few adjustments for example, the coach wants an increase on his current salary of €850,000 per season to €1 million per annum. He would also like to get rid of the clause that states his position will be reviewed at the end of every season.
THE OTHERS
There is currently no agreement with French defender Koulibaly. The player has asked for a five-year extension with a salary of €2 million per season, Napoli only wants to offer a one/two year deal. There is no panic however, despite the player being linked with Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Finally Mertens; the Belgian clearly wants an extension as he pointed out in a recent interview with a Belgian magazine and negotiations here should begin at the end of the season. The same could be said for striker Higuain, but the Argentine frontman has yet to give a clear indication that he wants to stay at the San Paolo.
