Napoli: Insigne, Koulibaly & Mertens renewals, the latest
The transfer window is closed and now Napoli prepares to tie down some of their crown jewels to new deals at the San Paolo. The delay has caused discontent within the group and a quick solution is needed.
Defender Kalidou Koulibaly was close to joining Chelsea; the player was ready to go but his club were determined to keep hold of him and raised a wall that even Roman Abramovic did not want to scale. But there remains the problem of a renewal, the Senegalese international has a deal until 2019 but his salary of €800,000 a season does not reflect his importance to the team. Koulibaly wants €3 million a season, Napoli are prepared to offer €2 million but seem to be prepared to meet somewhere in between.
It seems like it’s all done for Hysaj, the Albanian full-back was one of the revelations of last season and has earned himself a new deal at the club with a buy-out clause of around €40 million, which is valid only for clubs outside of Serie A. Business looks set to be concluded in the coming days when the players representatives sit down and discuss terms with President De Laurentiis. Lorenzo Insigne’s future remains in the balance after the recent exchange between the player’s agent and De Laurentiis. It’s hoped that the current differences can be overcome and that the hometown boy will stay with his first love. Belgian play-maker Dries Mertens is another player the vesuviani want to tie down as quickly as possible; the 29-year-old is happy in the city and although his current deal runs until 2018, there seems to be a mutual agreement from both sides to continue their relationship.
