Muntari calls Mihajlovic 'an excellent coach'

Former AC Milan and Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari has come to the rescue of beleaguered manager Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Serbian manager has been under enormous pressure following Milan’s poor start to the season, the Rossoneri’s eleventh place being compounded by a 4-0 shellacking at the hands of Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.

Muntari, however, has little doubt that Mihajlovic is the right man for the job.

"Milan have a great coach in Mihajlovic,” Muntari told Tiki-Taka.

“In the end, I think Milan will get back to doing well again.

Though the 31–year-old Al-Ittihad player claimed that he “wanted to see Milan win every game”, he couldn’t hide his affections for Fiorentina, a club he has never played for.

“I hope Fiorentina win the title, they’ve been successful for years and play some great football, they deserve it.”

The Ghanaian international then went back to a rather controversial moment in his career, when a goal he scored against Juventus was unfairly chalked off by referee Paolo Tagliavento, despite replays showing an outstretched Gianluigi Buffon unable to stop it from crossing the line.

Juventus went on to win their first Serie A title that season following the Calciopoli scandal and their relegation to Serie B.

“Maybe it was a goal, but it wasn’t given. I don’t think we’d have won the title anyway”.
