Milan are looking for an inside midfielder. Maybe a quaterback. Maybe even a striker, if Cassano leaves. A rich market for sure. But there is a doubt. A playmaker is missing in the midfield.

With Pirlo's transfer, this is down to Mark Van Bommel. The Dutch player has not the same skill, but he knows how to do it and guarantees a solid contribution in front of the defense. His six months as a first liner convinced Allegri. But Van Bommel has no substitute and, above all, he's 34.

Galliani has already made it clear that Ambrosini can play as a central midfielder, but he's not as calm as Van Bommel, let alone Gattuso. 

The alternatives are Clarence Seedorf as playmaker or Thiago Silva in the midfield, waiting for the recovery of Mexes and Nesta. These are more emergency plans than alternatives, especially for the future. Tha's why there might be an interest in Montolivo and Aquilani. Will Galliani surprise the fans again?
