Milan, Montella; "The transfer market? I knew what I was going to encounter".
Milan coach Vincenzo Montella has been speaking to journalists ahead of tomorrow’s season opener against Torino at the San Siro. He began by explaining that; “I’m proud to be here and coaching at the same club as legends like Ancelotti. Excuse me if I seem a little overcome with the emotion.
Milan-Torino and the anger of the fans:
“Now it’s down to the serious business and we must think about the results. The fans have reason to be angry after recent seasons but through sacrifice and effort we will try to get them back to the stadium”.
The starting grid:
“On paper there are teams more equipped but this is a challenge to us and it’s important that there is confidence in the team”.
On tomorrow’s opponents:
“Torino is a squad which has changed under (Sinisa) Mihajlovic. He transmits great enthusiasm and temperament and I recognised this after I joined Milan”.
On the job in hand:
“It’s not all about the coach, the team needs cohesion. The players, fans must all work together for the good of Milan”.
On speaking with Berlusconi:
“I have chatted to him over the past few days and I think there is a duty on my part to continue the work of the last 30 years. It’s an act of love by him selling this club and for my part, I want to thank him" .
On the transfer market:
“It’s pretty much as I expected it to be, I knew it would be difficult bringing in the players I wanted and nothing that has happened has surprised me”.
On what’s still lacking from the squad:
“On the eve of the first game I’m not going to comment on this. The club knows what I’m looking for and who I want”.
