Following a difficult start to the season, Alejandro “Papu” Gomez is back to being a key contributor at Atalanta. Once able to assimilate new Coach Giampiero Gasperini’s ideas, the Argentine playmaker has replicated the form we saw last season, where he burst onto the scene with SEVEN? goals.

It is likely that Gomez will now be the object of further transfer market interest, namely from Inter and Atletico Madrid... but especially from AC Milan, who tried to hand him to new Coach Vincenzo Montella, who is known to be a great admirer.

They’re in pole position for the winter transfer window.

The Rossoneri are looking for an alternative in attack to the likes of Suso and M’Baye Niang [Bonaventura and Honda essentially broke down from fatigue last season], but are willing to offer only 10-15 million, mainly owing to Gomez’s age (28).

Atalanta really don’t want to lose their captain, however, just as much as Italy don’t want to squander the opportunity of him to the Azzurri squad.

While Antonio Conte had thought about the matter, current Coach Giampiero Ventura wants Papu included in the run-up to Russia 2018, and has already said as much to the Argentine.

Could 2017 be the season in which Gomez hits the big stage… at international level?
