Milan derby hero Alex set for contract extension
The former Chelsea defender struggled with injuries last term under Filippo Inzaghi as he could only play 27 games in all competitions.
With Sinisa Mihajlovic’s arrival to the San Siro, Alex seems to have overcame all his physical hassles, so much so has already 19 appearances this season, not to mansion how important his role is to help Alessio Romagnoli’s development.
Alex, by the way, was close to joining Sao Paolo this past summer.
Milan were ready to sell him for free, but the player failed to find economic agreement with the Brazilian club that had offered him € 800.000 to switch the San Siro for the Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo.
The player refused to move to Brazil as his wage at Milan is in the region of € 2.5 million a year, but after having netted the opener against Inter he could also remain at the club.
Milan have an option to extend the 33-year-old contract for one more season offering him € 1.6-1.8 million a year.
The two sides will probably meet between March and April to decide whether to continue together or not. Only one between Alex, Mexes and Zapata will remain at San Siro also in the 2016-2017 campaign.
