Mihajlovic wants Serbian protégé Andrija Zivkovic to join Milan

Yesterday's AC Milan press conference contained some interesting details that are worth expounding on, especially with Rossoneri fans now depressed that their team has fallen to Atalanta in Bergamo.

In it, Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said that he believes that the Rossoneri only need a few buys to boost the squad... and we think we know where he'll look first.

As he proved by picking the likes of Alessio Romagnoli and Gigi Donnarumma, the Serbian doesn't seem to care much either for names or prestige, focussing instead on quality, and especially determination.

With Mihajlovic leaning towards youngsters, we believe that he'll veer towards none other than Andrija Zivkovic, known in his home country as the "Serbian Messi".

Wanted by half the continent, the 19-year-old talent is the kind of player who can make the step up to a more prestigious league... and he'll be available on a Bosman, too.

It gets better: Mihajlovic himself has already played a huge role in his career, not to mention his development. Not the most successful in the national team's recent coaching history, Sinisa can at least claim to have kickstarted the careers of a number of relatively unknown youngsters, whom he promoted to the national set-up ahead of far bigger names (ring any bells, Gigi?).

We're thinking about Adem Ljajic, Nikola Maksimovic... and Zivkovic, too, who was given his first cap aged 17 back in 2013. Mihajlovic doesn't just believe that the youngster possesses extraorinary gifts, but has also spoken in the past about how proud he is of former players who have gone on to great things.

Could the Serbian Messi be the next one? And could he do it in Italy? Remember, he's represented by super agent Pini Zahavi (he of the TPO and Kia Joorabchian connections), and is being chased by Benfica, as well as some of the Premier League's best.

Milan, however, have two advantages: firstly, Zivkovic has already been offered to the Rossoneri (a story we broke here), and secondly the manager to whom he is inextricably linked.

As long as they don't fire him, that is!
