Mertens: Napoli more of a team without Higuain

Dries Mertens is enjoying life in Naples, that’s for sure.

The Belgian shined in Napoli’s 4-2 win over Benfica last night, smashing in a brace which took his tally to a total of five goals this season.

Having displaced Lorenzo Insigne, Mertens also had some interesting things to say about the departed Gonzalo Higuain, implying that the Partenopei are better off without the Argentine.

“It’s a pity about the two goals we conceded, but we played well," he told Premium Sport.

“We’re playing more and more together, more compact, more as a team, and I’m effectively scoring more at the moment, the ball is going in.

“Sarri is very important, he’s arrived at the elite level far too late, he’s amazing, he can get even better”.
