Mertens: 'I'm not a supersub, it's a disgrace that I'm called one'
It looks like Dries Mertens doesn't like being a benchwarmer... or have his reputation as a supersub mentioned.
Speaking after Belgium's 1-1 draw with Finland – in which he scored his team's only goal – the former PSV star had words for those who think that he's better coming off the bench.
“It's a shameful opinion, I'm tired of hearing it”.
The press conference also saw Mertens – who started only six Serie A games for Napoli this season - defend himself from accusations of fatigue: “The Coach said I was tired? It's not true.
“The team comes first, but it's normal to not be happy when playing time isn't forthcoming”.
