Matip snubs Cameroon to stay with Liverpool in January
Liverpool defender Joel Matip has revealed why he has snubbed participating in the Africa Cup of Nations for Cameroon to remain at Anfield in January. The 25-year-old told the clubs official website that; ““It’s not an easy decision but I want to concentrate on Liverpool. I want to be here, I want to focus on Liverpool and that’s what I had to decide. I think I took the right decision.”
Imdominatable Lions boss Hugo Broos was confident that he had convinced the player to join up with the rest of the squad after Christmas but now these hopes have been dashed and Reds coach Jurgen Klopp can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Matip has had an outstanding start to the new season and his absence in last week’s dramatic 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth was clear for all to see. He is set to return for tomorrow’s home game against West Ham United.
