Marotta on AC Milan: ‘Young players do not win titles’
“We didn’t want to sell Pogba, but he asked to leave the club and earn more money. We could have offered him more, but that would have created controversies in the dressing room. His economic requests were too high and he asked to go. We did not even try to keep him as we knew he wanted to go.”
Marotta has also revealed the figures and add-ons behind the deal, confirming what we wrote a few days after that Pogba had moved to Man Utd last August.
“Raiola’s agency will get € 27 million for the deal. We had previously agreed that he would have get € 18 million for a sale over € 90 million, plus a maximum of € 9 million, if we had sold Pogba for more than that fee.”
“The impact of Pogba’s sale is € 72 million, which is an astonishing income. We wanted to build the team around him, but he wanted to leave.”
“Higuain was a priority for us, we decided to activate the € 90 million release clause which can be paid in two instalments.”
Talking about last Saturday’s Milan clash, Marotta said: “Credit to AC Milan for playing young players, but Galliani was forced to gamble on young players because he had not enough money during the transfer window. Young players do not win titles. Juventus’ average age is no limit for us. There is a good mixture of young and experienced players. We have Buffon who is almost 40 and Kean who is 16 and could start for the senior team soon.”
“If we win the league we’ll make Cuadrado switch permament for € 20 million. We have him on loan for the next three seasons, for € 5 million a year. With Zaza is the other way around, West Ham will make his move permanent after the 14th appearance. Bayern Munich can make Coman’s move permanent for € 21 million. I wish they don’t do it, but I’m afraid they will.”
“I spoke to Rizzoli after the Milan clash. We had a polite conversation and that was it. Referees’ decisions will never be alibis for us. Juventus must win regardless referees’ decisions. At the end of the season, these situations are always balanced”
