Marotta: "Bentancur will be a Juve player, in January we will try again for Witsel"
Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has been speaking in-depth to Radio Rai about all things bianconeri. He began by explaining that; “In the history of Juventus it is normal to be seen as one of the favourites in every competition. I would say that our point of strength is the defence and once again we have only conceded four goals so far. This for me is always the foundations to having a successful team”.
ON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – “We participate in every competition with the intention to win it. In the past few years we have become more solid making major investments in the transfer market. Our participation in the Champions League is fundamental; we must have an international vision”.
ON WITSEL – “We have an obligation to monitor the best players around Europe and evaluate all possibilities. Witsel has a contract that is expiring so it makes it easier for us to deal with. He has a profile suited to our team and we will try again in January to bring him to Turin”.
ON THE SQUAD – “We have the right mix between youth and experience and this allows us to compete at the highest level and makes it easier to insert new players into the squad”.
ON BENTANCUR & BROZOVIC – “They are both good players, we have an option on Bentancur and in the coming months we will explore the possibilities. As far as Brozovic is concerned, he is player of Inter and we now have our sights set on other targets”.
ON PJACA & MANDZUKIC – “The most important work is done on the training ground during the week and Allegri and his staff are helping Pjaca to develop. I believe that soon he will prove to be a huge asset to Juventus. Mandzukic like all the other players will have to be patient as the coach will be rotating the squad throughout the season. He will get his turn at some point”.
ON REPLACING BUFFON – “It’s not easy to replace someone who is the best in the world in his position. We will try to seek out a profile of someone we think can do similar things to him”.
ON A POTENTIAL SUPER-LEAGUE – “The President Agnelli is very wary to protect the interests of Italian football and he is doing a great job. It’s obvious we need internal changes as we have largest number of professional clubs and this is becoming unmanageable. Serie A should be reduced to 18 clubs to improve the level of the competition.”
