    Marek Hamsik came close to joining AC Milan in 2011

    Napoli star Marek Hamsik came close to joining AC Milan in 2011, the Slovakian midfielder has told Il Corriere dello Sport.

    The Serie A giants wanted to sign Hamsik to reinforce that at the time Max Allegri’s squad after their Serie A triumph in the 2010-11 campaign.

    “I confirm that AC Milan wanted to sign me. Inter and Juventus also made contact but there is no chance for me to join any other Serie A club which is not Napoli. It is probable that I am going to end my playing career here. That is something that could really happen.”

    ​Hamsik is a legend of the San Paolo hierarchy having joined them in summer 2007 in a € 5 million deal from Brescia.

    The 29-year-old midfielder is now the most iconic player of the partenopei having score 103 goals and registered 95 assists in 418 games in all competitions.

    ​Hamsik has also won two Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup in his Napoli career.
