Marco Materazzi finally reveals what he really told Zidane during the 2006 WC final

Italy won the fourth World Cup in their history exactly ten years ago beating France on penalties in Berlin. That final will be remembered for Zidane’s head-butt to Marco Materazzi who had been insulting the French International before he hit the former Inter centre-back on his chest.

Materazzi has told L’Equipe what he told Zidane during the final.

“I respect Zidane’s decision of not talking about that. I’ve published a book because everyone was asking what I had told him to cause his reaction.”

“I said some stupid words, but his reaction was exaggerated. You might here more offensive statements in every suburb of Rome, Naples Turin or Paris. I told him something about his sister, not about his mother.”

“My mum died when I was a child, that’s why I’d never offend Zinedine’s.”
