Manchester United & Everton to battle it out for Fonte
According to reports in The Mirror, Manchester United and Everton will go head to head to sign Southampton skipper Jose Fonte. The journal claims that the 33-year-old Portuguese defender has rejected a new contract at St Mary’s worth £80,000 -a-week and a move away now looks imminent.
With his current deal set to expire at the end of the current campaign, The Saints were prepared to make Fonte the highest paid player at the club but reports have emerged that the player is unhappy that his current employer, failed to inform him of a £9 million offer from his former boss Ronald Koeman that could have taken him to Everton in the summer.

The toffees are obviously still keen to get their man but Manchester United have also expressed an interest and with the player represented by the same agent as boss Jose Mourinho, Jorge Mendes, it’s now believed that they could be in the box seat.
