    Despite Milan have lifted their last Serie A trophy in 2011, the Dutch International Nigel de Jong have always featured among the most reliable players since he joined the club in 2012 on a € 3.5 million deal from Manchester City.

    During the summer transfer window, de Jong has extended his expiring contract with the club until 2018 as both the player and the club thought that the 30-year-old could have been the right man to take a leadership role in the Rossoneri back room in order to kick off a new successful project under the manager Sinisa Mihajlovic.

    In reality, the former Manchester City holding midfielder has failed to play on a regular basis under the new boss, who has always opted for Riccardo Montolivo to play in the middle of the pitch.

    Nigel de Jong could only snatch 315 minutes in four Serie A appearances, producing  nine interceptions and winning five tackles. It is no secret that the player eager to a San Siro exit in the next transfer window and rumors suggested that Louis van Gaal could be interested in bringing him at the Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

    De Jong is on a € 3 million deal a year at AC Milan and the club could let him go in January for a relatively cheap price.
