Look out Inter! Simeone's Atleti deal shortened by two years
Spanish papers AS and Marca claim that Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone has reached an agreement with the club, shortening his contract by two years and earning a big raise in the process.
Originally intended to run until 2020, his deal will now expire in 2018, satisfying the Argentinian Coach’s wish to end his cycle with the Colchoneros before their new stadium is completed.
This move will also make El Cholo one of Europe’s highest-paid managers.
This will surely have some consequences for the teams who are interested in him: PSG contacted Atletico over Simeone last summer, but were stonewalled when they were asked to pay their Coach’s huge release clause.
Atletico don’t want to lose their Coach for nothing, unless he insists on sticking around in 2017-2018 and leaving on a free. Is this a move intended to force an eventual departure?
Inter Milan have always been very enthusiastic about El Cholo, even inserting a clause covering a potential arrival in new Coach Frank De Boer’s deal.
The former Nerazzurro himself has repeatedly stated his wish to one day work with his two big loves, Lazio and Inter.
Could this really be happening? The omens are good, that’s for sure.
