Lichtsteiner: ‘Juventus still believe in Scudetto’
“We still believe we can win the title,” the 31-year-old told Sky Sport Italia
“However at the moment we need to take it one game at a time, and try to score as many points as we can before Christmas.”
This line of reasoning has, by the way, been used by Silvio Berlusconi to assess whether under-fire manager Sinisa Mihajloivic deserves to keep his Milan job past the new year.
“We’ll see what happens in 2016. We’re doing very well in the Champions League despite tougher matchups in Manchester City, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach.
“We won in Manchester with four at the back, but we beat them at home with the 3-5-2.
“This shows that we can play in a number of different formations, it’s an ace up our sleeve”.
The Swiss international then went on to talk about his arrthymia, a condition some doctors believed would keep him out for the rest of the season, or a few months at least.
However, Juve’s head-ache at right-back - aggravated by Martin Caceres’ car-crash - was over within a month, with the Swiss making a full recovery and returning with a bang, scoring in Champions League action against Borussia Monchengladbach to snatch a vital point in Germany.
“When I was faced with my condition my thoughts didn’t immediately turn to football: I’m a father, a husband and a son first.
“It was a tough time for me, I didn’t know when I’d be back, but fortunately I made a quick recovery.
“I felt like I was ready when I came back, my return to the pitch was excellent.”]
Lichtsteiner has made 127 Serie A appearances for Juventus, netting 11 goals, providing 17 (!) assists and winning four Serie A titles.
