Napoli-Klaassen: the latest
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants it all. The patron is already busy on the transfer market and after having closed the deal for Empoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli, his next mission is to confirm Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen.
The 23-year-old Dutchman has been on the radar and Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli is picking up where his predecessor Bigon left-off to try to bring him to Italy. Coach Maurizio Sarri wants Saponara, but Giuntoli has convinced him that Klaassen is stronger and De Laurentiis will give Ajax €20 million for their player.
Klaassen himself must be convinced however after refusing a January move telling the vesuviani to wait until the summer. Now, with Champions League football secured, it’s more than likely it’ll be second-time lucky for Napoli. Belgian midfielder Dries Mertens knows the player well and has been trying to convince him to join him at the San Paolo. Now Giuntoli must also put their case forward.
