Juventus want Courtois to replace Buffon if Donnarumma stays at Milan

Juventus’ goalkeeping situation has long been a fascinating topic of discussion.

As exceptional as he is, Gianluigi Buffon can’t go on playing forever. But who can replace the 38-year-old?

We’ve written extensively on the topic, with reserve goalkeeper Neto very unlikely to be the man. A previous focus piece on these pages pointed out that the Turinese side was far more likely to opt for, well, a new Buffon, someone with the talent to be the goalkeeper at the J Stadium for the next 15-20 years, not just the short-term.

This made Gigi Donnarumma of Milan the most likely candidate, something agent Mino Raiola (who gets on very well with Juve) simply won’t exclude.

Tuttosport have, (via Calcionews24) however, pointed out that if the Red Devil were not available, Juve have three more names on the list: the first is that of Thiabault Courtois, whose presence in London was in doubt this summer, though he seems to be happier of late.

Otherwise, PSG youngster Alphonse Areola is also on the Biaconeri’s radar, as well as Jan Oblak.

None of them are easy choices, obviously. But then again, Marotta and Paratici often make the hard things look easy...
