Juventus target Witsel rejects new Zenit contract offer

No secret that Juventus are looking to adding some depth to their midfield with Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel who tops the Old Lady’s wish list. The Zenit St. Petersburg ace was supposed to complete a move to the J Stadium in the summer transfer window, but his switch to Italy collapsed in the deadline day.

The Serie A giants have already reached an agreement with the former Benfica midfielder, though they have yet to persuade Zenit to sell the player in the January window for € 5-6 million.

Witsel’s contract, in fact, expires in June 2017 and if Zenit fail to monetize the player’s exit in January, they’ll lose the player for free in the summer.

Zenit are doing everything to convince Witsel to extend his stay at the club. The Russian club are said to have offered the player a new € 8-million-a-year deal, though the offer has been rejected by the 27-year-old who wants Juventus switch.

The Old Lady, however, is not going to offer more than € 6 million in the January window, if Zenit say no again, Juventus will get the player for free next summer.
