Juventus mainstay Lichtsteiner could be out six months
The Swiss international experienced severe breathing difficulties during Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Frosinone two weeks ago. Having felt unwell during the interval, he eventually spent the night at the Mauriziano hospital.
Fans were reassured when Juventus released an official statement on Friday afternoon, in which they claimed the player would recover “within approximately 30 days”.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, however, Lichtsteiner could be on the sidelines for much longer. In an interview with the newspaper, world-renowned cardiologist Bruno Carù confirmed that “In these circumstances, the law states that a player has to wait six months before he can play again.”
“One has to evaluate his reactions to the operation and confirm that he no longer has arrhythmic symptoms. There is an 8% chance that the operation doesn’t go well, which will force Stefan to undergo another one.”
Carù, who is known for operating on Inter winger Jonathan Biabiany, went on to say that the long-term picture looked good.
“Juventus have put their faith in Doctor Gaita, one of the best. Lichsteiner’s career isn’t over, absolutely not. His hearth is healthy. He’ll be back, but people need to be patient.”
