Juventus: Buffon prepares to claim another record
Every time Gianluigi Buffon pulls on the goalkeeping jersey for Juventus he seems as though he is going to set another new record. Sunday’s match against Chievo will be his 600th in Serie A and he will become the fourth player after Paolo Maldini (647), Javier Zanetti (615) and Francesco Totti (607) to reach this milestone.
What separates the 38-year-old Italian international from the names above however is that he will become the first player to reach this figure, who has played for more than one club. Buffon played 168 Serie A games during a six-year spell at Parma and tomorrow’s game in Verona will be his 432nd for the bianconeri.
It’s been a great year for the Italy number one who has also been shortlisted for both the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year. How many more records he can break before he finally decides to hang up his gloves, remains to be seen.
