Juve, two stars for Conte's 4-2-4

Tevez, Aguero, Benzema, Ribery, Nani, Pastor, Sanchez ... There is much talk for the big names in the attack of Antonio Conte's new Juventus, but perhaps it is another area of the field in which the club should act with more urgency.

We are talking about the two central defenders and the two central midfielders. If the new Juventus coach will try to put into practice his 4-2-4 successfully adopted when he coached Bari and Siena, there is no doubt that the quadrilateral consisting of four centrals (two in the defense and two in the midfield) will be an impenetrable fortress, a block of granite which will allow greater freedom for maneuver to the side attackers. "I want creativity only in attack, the defense must be organised and planned, without improvisation," said Conte in a recent interview.

Well, if this is the premise there is no doubt that the defense and the midfield, which this season established a negative record of goals taken (31, followed by Lecce with 29, Bari and Palermo 28), needs a good restructuring. Among the central defenders, any pair made up by mixing the names of Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli and Sorensen would have problems that have been shown this season. It's obvious that there is the absence of a great defender of international level: Vidic or Ivanovic for example, or the dream Pique. Juve need a player like Thiago Silva.

The same goes for the two central midfielders, even more so if one of them will be, as it seems, Andrea Pirlo. It goes without saying that, the former Milan player should be paired with a more physical player, able to stop the opponents' game. Someone like Edgar Davids, or ... Antonio Conte! In the current squad Marchisio does not have those characteristics, Sissoko and Melo gave some indications in this direction but not reliably so for different reasons. Aquilani could be Pirlo's substitute, but it will be very unlikely that Juventus will spend 10 million euro for a substitute.

In conclusion, for the season 2011-12, the first two stars of the new Juve should be a defender and a midfielder.
